ok, girly telepathy...IT EXISTS!!!

just happened to me today.  the last few days to be precise, i've been looking at other girls' toes at work and thinking, Why is their polish so shiny? Do I need to get a real professional pedicure to make it that shiny?  Then, i thought, duh, they're using some fancy top coat--THAT is what i'm missing!  but then, (like i said, real deep thoughts here, stay if you can handle it) i kept forgetting to buy it and i didn't know what kind to buy, blah blah...

my toenails were dull, unshiny, a pretty red, but no glossy sheen, no real shine...

then, i get to work, and becky hands me this bag full of goodies---which i didn't look at til break.

how bout that for evidence? i mean, becky and i sat together on a stand for 5 years straight; it's a marriage of sorts, we like to joke.  (but hey, it's no joke..cuz dude, we got a BOND.)

incidentally, becky was sporting some gorgeous new earrings today:

anyway, i had my camera out cuz i heard that amy irving and isaac mizrahi were around for the opera rehearsal.  amy irving sang right to the left of me, she put herself right in the middle of the orchestra... but it was too close for me to take a picture.  i mean, i have to respect her space (and my dignity) even tho' i'm always surprisingly star-struck---more ridiculously excited than i'd like to admit.  unlike her new role as the new captain on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, ms. irving now has light hair and light eyebrows.  just some trivia.  anyway, i remember her most from Crossing Delancey and that woody allen Deconstructing Harry (where i believe she played a violist, ha ha).

which took some brain adjustment.. she is crying a lot in Send in the Clowns. she seems to be a very emotional person, so different from how i saw her in L&O, where she's tough and unexpressive with a little new yawk accent.

anyway, since i didn't take any pictures and was frustrated,

..in ITALY.  why did i never go to spoleto?? why why why
"egyptian rat screw"  (card game including lots of slapping--of hands) is really part of my summer music camp memories---meadowmount, pacific music festival.  probably even aspen, i'm not sure but i went there for like 7 summers or something.  taos was just endless scrabble---so fun.

i think this was taken ten years ago.  apparently they are playing egyptian ratscrew.. in italy. shawn, now in st louis symphony avec moi is on the left; i don't know the next guy; davin (!) has a goatee! haha; next is florence leblond, cellist, who was my neighbor at yale; then mark inouye (whose facebook album i stole this from) who is HILARIOUS cokeaholic (the drink, not the drug) who can do lots of neat-o tricks and oh is also principal trumpet of San Francisco Symphony.

in the saint louis symphony, black patent leather shoes are mandatory.  thus, they are also tax-deductible.
the temptation is great to buy cool patent leather shoes when you see them... also, it's a great excuse.  however, i will exercise restraint, even tho' these would surely make me play better.  restraint, restraint, restraint!!  someone else buy them!  they're on sale at revolveclothing, $140, down from supposed $215.

SUCCESS!!  certain magical forces allow miracles to happen once again...
Sarah, bassist and beautiful supermodel (she's like ~6'11 or something)... has raised my ill-fitting (on moi) PETITE ann taylor loft dress to heights (haha, i did that by accident!) of cool never reached before for a petite-sized garment.  thank you sarah!  i knew this dress had capacity for greatness. (i think also i can safely say this is the only petite-sized article she has ever owned) HA! the magique of clothes swap!!

knee-length unflattering dress on me = so cute tunic on sarah!!! YAY

thanks also to EMI (my blog idol as you know) for encouraging clothes-swap, which i never did before.  much more gratifying (sorry) than giving to goodwill. 
props also go to EMILY for giving me beautiful CNC shoes and guh-guh-guh-gorgeous silk top (too nice to wear for orchestra)...clothes-swap RULZ!!
btw, sarah is modeling my petite dress (now adult-size tunic) in the SLSO bass room, which is no doubt a glamorous setting, non?  when do u get to see the SLSO bass room, right? recently it's been beautified, GILDED, be-dazzled to grandness by another bassist, associate principal and seamstress (and world-beautifier) carolyn w., who you can see faintly behind sarah)

amusing, huh?  neil's article is a ray of sunlight through the cynical haze of orchestral life (conductor/composer bashing, dirty jokes, envy over other orchestras' salaries.. oh hey, i just noticed at the bottom, to the left of the fumes of alan gilbert's silly self-satisfied, entitled, ridiculous blobby arrogance--yeah, i'm not such a fan--there's the results of the trumpet committee voting where i came in last with 9 votes!! i was going to start a protest---i was the only girl, only string player, only asian on the ballot!  oh the Old Boy Network! oh the pervasive racism, sexism, and string-ism in the workplace! hahaha.  no but seriously, i actively campaigned, but no cigar.  can't trust a violinist to evaluate trumpet playing? well, you can trust me up til the finals for SURE)

funny thing happened on the way to H e L L

i'm one of those fraudy asian-americans that use my asianness only when it suits me/ when the identity helps me get away with stuff, or hide behind The Culture. sometimes it's b.s. (like, for instance look at me trying to write my name in chinese characters--holy mess.) ok, i just figured out that instead of trying to pull off "NO ENGRISH" w/ a straight face when approached by panhandlers and harrassing possible scam-artists (usu. at symphony parking lot and powell hall environs)--which never works cuz i'm never ready for the proper delivery (derivery)-- i have decided to just go with my normal, perfect native english and say "NO ENGLISH" just regular, w/o the silly r/l switch (with is sooo offensive har), because it's nobody's business and i look the part and that should be sufficient.

unfair and imbalanced

regarding HGCF (Hot Guys of Classical Music), currently being compiled, am i to be a disinterested party or should i just stick all my fingers in every pie (ew)? well obviously i can't possibly stay neutral--that's no fun. ok, fine, you win, i'll be the Decider. i am the arbiter of HOTness. i'll take on that responsibility if i must. it's my [unread] blog after all and self-indulgence is its heart and soul, as you know. but to be fair, i will provide my idea, my standard of timeless hotness--tyrone power, oh. so. beautiful. also, i'll provide a sampling of classical musicians, oh say the saint louis symphony..hmm.
